How To: Enable Flood Protection/DoS Configuration in Titan SFTP

How To: Enable Flood Protection/DoS Configuration in Titan

Question

How can I enable DoS (Denial of Service) Protection in Titan?

Reasoning

Flood Protection/DoS Protection is designed to mitigate the risk of attacks by blocking malicious traffic and preventing overwhelming requests from a hacker or unauthorized sources. Enabling this feature helps safeguard the server from DoS attacks that could disrupt service availability.

Answer

In Titan SFTP and Titan MFT, you can enable Flood Protection/DoS protection to prevent attacks by controlling incoming traffic patterns and filtering potentially harmful connections. Here’s how to configure it:

Steps

  1. Log in to the Titan Server Administrator.
  2.  Navigate to the Security section.
  3.  Click on ‘Flood Protection / DoS’ and check the box labeled ‘Enable DoS / Hammer / Flood Protection Features.’

    • You can configure how many connection attempts within a specific time window (in seconds) will trigger a ban on the offending IP address.

    • Choose whether the IP address responsible for the flood will be banned:
      •  Indefinitely (Forever)
      • Temporarily (Specify the duration in minutes)

        Click Apply to save.

             4.      Enable Username Hacking Protection (Optional):

      • For additional protection against brute-force login attempts, check the box for ‘Enable Username Hacking Protection Features.’

      • Similarly to Flood Protection, configure the number of failed login attempts within a specified time (in seconds) that will result in the banning of the IP address.

You can also specify whether the IP should be banned indefinitely or temporarily.
      Click Apply to save.

      Configuration Details:

      • Flood Protection / DoS Settings:
        • Set the maximum number of connection attempts allowed from a single IP within a short time window (in seconds).
        • Determine whether the offending IP should be banned permanently or for a set duration (in minutes).
      • Username Hacking Protection:
        •  Configure the maximum number of failed login attempts allowed for a specific username in a defined time window.
        • Choose whether the IP responsible for the failed attempts should be banned permanently or temporarily.

By enabling and configuring both Flood Protection and Username Hacking Protection, you can significantly reduce the risk of malicious attacks aimed at overwhelming the server or attempting unauthorized access through brute force.

       Notes:

      • Adjust the thresholds based on your security requirements and traffic patterns.
      • Regularly monitor the logs to ensure legitimate users are not being mistakenly blocked.
