WenDrive SharePoint Throttling

Question

My WebDrive SharePoint connection or transfers are being throttled. Transfers delayed. What can I do?

Answer

Microsoft has a low threshold for throttling connections from third-party applications over their API. Google, Dropbox, Amazon, etc. do not implement these same measures for their cloud connections. To work around these restrictions, WebDrive cache can be customized for best results in a trade-off between quick updates and functionality.

Make these changes to all Users in your environment

Steps
  1. In the main Settings for WebDrive, ensure “Show all settings” is enabled

  2. Edit the settings for your SharePoint connection in WebDrive, open the “Cache Settings” dropdown, and uncheck the options for “Clear cached files when connecting” and “Clear cached folders when connecting”

  3. In the same menu, enable “Customize Cache Settings”, and disable “Detect changes to cached files automatically”

  4. For “Validation for files”, select ‘Compare cached item to server copy’

  5. For “Validation for folders”, select ‘Consider cached item stale based on time’ and set the value to 300 seconds (or 5 minutes. Experiment with ranges of time that allow for the best mixture of performance vs update frequency in your environment and with your number of users and SharePoint files/sites/libraries.

  6. Reconnect the SharePoint connection and use as before

NOTE: For the LEAST throttling/requests sent to the server, turn the Validation for folders to “Never” and only manually refresh directory/folder listings when desired.
